Dine With Dez Spring Recap

Spring Fling to Summer Love: Best Date-Worthy Dining In NYC

Hi Foodies!

Summer is just around the corner, and with June upon us, the city is buzzing with energy, sunshine, and endless possibilities. At Dine With Dez, we’ve decided to take our time to recalibrate—after all, as my granny would say, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint!” In that spirit, we have a strong desire for exploration. At the end of the day we are in the Mecca of cuisine that is NYC! We took the month of March & April to find out the best spots for all occasions to get ready for summer!

However, we are far from selfish! This is a special newsletter where we will tell you our favorite places to bring that baddie who’s been catching your eye at the coffee shop. Remember, spring is about a fresh start and taking risks. We encourage you to ask that person on a date or rekindle the fire with your significant other. Or spoil your friends because they deserve a date as much as that hottie does!

Now, take my word that nothing strengthens a relationship like delicious food, sultry ambiance, and a stiff cocktail!

Here are some of our dining picks that we love!!!

And yes, you’re welcome in advance!!!

This spot has become a LES staple, even though it might be one of the newer kids on the infamous Orchard Street block that I have grown fond of. It's a moody bar, perfect to sneak into during a random rendezvous through lower Manhattan. I usually judge a place by how much I enjoy their espresso martini, and this one is a traditional classic. With its intimate ambiance, low lighting, rustic decor, and a playlist that for some reason is always stellar, I like to say it's an easy option. Personally, I love it when it’s not too crowded early in the evening on a weeknight. However, if you desire a more electric vibe or something a bit more mixy (as the kids say), check it out during the weekend! This is a hub for young supermodels and buzzing influencers, so you’ll never know who you might see. I'd recommend saving this place for the third or fourth date. A first date here might be a little risky, and it would be a shame to lose them to a hot bartender!

The new sensational trend in NYC has been the concept of an “art bar.” Now, to some, this may trigger a pretentious energy that most folks reading this may steer far away from. On the contrary, this artsy gem is far from what you may think. Like many of us, I scrummage through TikTok, looking for the best places to take my friends or a hot boy on date nights. Manuela, a quaint but honestly pretty spacious eatery tucked in the crevice of Soho, was one that was at the top of my hit list, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The art that fills this place is incredible, and there is something new to discover at every turn! This is the perfect destination to bring a stranger, as the space itself will spark conversation. Once you find a cute spot to sit (and there are many!), I suggest sitting at the bar under Mika Rottenberg’s chandelier sculptures! After you’re seated, get a glass of their orange wine and try everything on the menu, especially the items you can’t pronounce! They single-handedly changed my opinion on beets, and that by itself is monumental!

If you keep your ear to the streets, you may have heard of this one! This chic bar is located inside The Fifth Avenue Hotel in Flatiron and provides a unique experience for someone looking to elevate their palate. I must warn you that this spot requires a little planning; I highly recommend making a reservation, or you may face a bit of a wait. However, this is worth the little extra work due to its scrumptious bites and experiential cocktails all based on different regions around the world. You’ll find many reinterpretations of familiar favorites, like a margarita or an old-fashioned, but they have a special twist that makes each flavor feel otherworldly. This applies to the parlor snacks as well, such as the deviled eggs, which may have been my favorite, and the crispy oysters. If you’re looking to impress someone or just desire something new take yourself to Portrait Bar, you won’t regret it!

If you are looking for a spot that's perfect for themed cocktails, artisan antique maximalist interior, and delicious bites, Oscar Wilde is the perfect place for you. This lively bar, located in NoMad, is a tribute to all things food, drinks, and eccentricity.  From late-night bites after a night out to dinner and brunch Oscar Wilde is a great place to go on a date with your boo or friends. Named after the Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde, the bar pays homage to his story with Victorian decor and various art. If you're single and want a drink out with friends after work I highly recommend starting with the "Lost in Love" vodka cocktail. Topped with hard candy and a sprinkle of powdered sugar, it's the perfect sweet citrusy drink. For food, I tried the chicken teriyaki dumplings paired with green beans which was truly delicious.  Whether you're into art,  ambiance, or just want a spot that exudes energy and style, Oscar Wilde is definitely worth visiting.

About

“Dine With Dez”, is conceptualized by Desmond Sam an experiential event producer, publicist, and entrepreneur from NYC with co-producer-partnership and experiential creative, Ramses Rubio. This collaboration began simply as an idea to elevate how we experience each other. We’ve noticed that it wasn’t nightlife as in clubs or parties that stimulated us in comparison to breaking bread with like-minded creatives. As we start with these intimate installments we will continue to build our community and broaden the conversations needed for a brighter tomorrow!
